We do research on emergent property and adaptability of living systems through cognitive/behavioral experiment and computer simulation. Our aim is to establish innovative methodology for living phenomena study. The keyword is Foreignness.
Human: Brain can elicit renewed and even unusual perception by integrating and differentiating multi-sensory information. We develop various systems where the user experiences a strange feeling, e.g. body disownership, out of body experience and so on.
Animal: The remarkable animal collective behavior (e.g. bird flocks, fish schools and insect swarms) captivates the attention of many people. However, nature of dynamical aggregation and segregation remains unclear. To understand natural collectives and to recreate a fascinated feeling of encountering them, we investigate real animal swarm and develop computer model inspired by them.
